I wrote some code around that API a few years back. They were flying high with their heads in the clouds and didn't realize they needed to communicate with developers. They got bought up back then by somebody, took off to go party, and I dropped them. Now they're charging, figures...

Beware, they are no longer free. And they have routinely changed their API, with little notice of deprecated functionality. And they have now been bought out by Urban Airship.
