Websnapr API

The service provides a simple way to capture and display a screenshot of the web page loaded by a specified URL. It retrieves a small preview of the page to be retrieved by clicking a link, helping site users to decide whether or not to open that page. It is intended to increase traffic to a site by offering attractive previews, which should boost click-through rates and site stickiness. The preview function is also intended to help users spot malware and other undesirable sites before clicking links that may compromise the security of their computers.

API methods support creation of a pop-up window with a preview image showing the destination page for a hyperlink in either of two sizes. Methods also modify links with "nofollow" attributes on destination pages to prevent use of irrelevant links to boost search engine rankings. The API performs a malware and phishing check on any previewed page and advises users of any security threats detected.
