2K and Firaxis Games have announced the upcoming release of Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, a multiplayer science fiction-themed game that is a new addition to the Civilization series of games. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will be available for Windows PC, Mac and Linux in fall 2014 (North America) and will be one of the first games to utilize AMD's new Mantle API for enhanced graphics performance.
Just about everybody agrees that mobile computing is the biggest thing happening in IT these days; it’s just that nobody can seem to agree about how best to go about it. Some developers swear by native applications that take advantage of every feature of the platform, while others argue for an HTML5 approach that sacrifices some of those features in the name of consistency and the ability to more easily support multiple mobile computing platforms. Today, Heroku makes a huge announcement around its support for PHP. PHP is currently one of the most popular languages driving the web. Although PHP drives the likes of some of the webs giants (e.g. Facebook, Etsy, etc.), PHP has traditionally lacked some qualities (e.g. runtime, management, infrastructure elements) that peers like Ruby on Rails, Python with Django, and Node have delivered for quite some time. On April 30, at Facebook's F8, a new PHP is announced with full Heroku support. On the evening of the announcement, ProgrammableWeb caught up with Heroku's Adam Gross.
