Radio stations are always looking for the "phrase that pays." That's passé. When it comes to local businesses on the web, it's praise that pays. Whether it's Yelp reviews, FourSquare check-ins, or customer feedback provided in Intuit's ongoing Love A Local Business competition.
A little over a year ago, Google released a new product called Google Fusion Tables. Fusion Tables allows you to upload, merge, share, and visualize large tables of tabular data. Basically, we wanted to answer the question “I have a spreadsheet. I want to share it with people and create a map/bar chart/storyline/other visualization.” Google Spreadsheets, while powerful, couldn’t handle the 100 meg upload we allow for Fusion Tables. And, being Google, we also provided something for developers.
Google has just announced the addition of a valuable new feature for the Google Maps API (the most popular API in our API directory): reverse geocoding. If you are not familiar with geocoding, it is the process of converting an address into a latitude/longitude pair. Likewise, reverse geocoding is the process of converting a latitude/longitude pair into an address. Developers using the Google Maps API have had access to geocoding since its release in June 2006, and geocoding has been integrated with many of the map mashups developed with this API.
