The GeoNames Python Library GeoNames Python Library by Dennis Carriere is a 0.1.2 Python Package for use with the GeoNames API. This library parses the geonames.org datasets into a clean and user-friendly OGR shapefile format. The GeoNames API is a geographical database with web services that let users extract useful information about different places, such as weather, timezone and post codes.
The University of Michigan Medical School created the Vaccine Investigation and Online Information Network (VIOLIN) because the vaccine research field lacked a web-based central repository where researchers could easily retrieve the vast amount of data underlying hundreds of years of research. Not only has VIOLIN provided the online database, the database is easily accessible via the VIOLIN API.
Our API directory now includes 123 database APIs. The newest is the BigTable API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the GeoNames API. We list 81 GeoNames mashups. Below you'll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of database APIs.
