Spectackler uses the Amazon Associates web service to let users filter and sort gadgets via a funky Ajax interface, rather that use the slow and boring Amazon shop interface.

Those worried about whether the internet will kill the local retailers have either a positive sign or another reason to worry. Location-based shopping company Retailigence has announced its first round of developer applications. The apps use the Retailigence API to look for products in stock at local stores, by either keyword or barcode. Brick and mortar retailers have long feared similar technology, which could be used to find a better deal online, where there are not the same real estate costs. Retailigence hope to flip that for local retailers, making it easy for consumers to shop locally.
Local coupon aggregation site The Dealmap will share the numbers behind its major growth, in part fueled by its The Dealmap API. The company, which says it reached 1.4 million users in nine months, sees 11 million daily queries to its API from its 271 developers.
There's always been a little annoyance on the end of affiliate APIs, those that pay developers money for referring buyers. In exchange for a potential sale, developers have to send their users to the company's site to complete the transaction. In the future, many of those purchasers will be able to remain using the developer's application for the length of the sale. We're a step closer to that future with a new release from API management company Mashery (a ProgrammableWeb sponsor). Mashery customers can now process transactions through their APIs, which means the potential for applications with lower barriers between a customer and a sale. And yes, that little annoyance at the end of affiliate APIs could be going away.
