In the past months we have covered real-time client push services and seen the introduction of real-time client push technology and APIs to a number of services such as Superfeedr and DataSift. This focus on real-time push to client applications, and in particular web browser applications, is very exciting. The initial assumption would be that this movement has been triggered by an advancement in technology, and to some degree that is the case, but it might surprise you to know that the ability to push real-time updates into a web browser isn't new and has in fact been around for a number of years.
Moxie Software has released Engage+,"the first social chat app that leverages Facebook’s social graph leveraging public profiles to target social visitors with unique proactive offers and provide agents with a rich set of social data." Until now, sales and customer service reps had access to limited customer data when interacting with customers via chat (e.g. customer name, purchase history, email, perhaps a few other data points). Engage+ utilizes Facebook's social graph to further understand and engage customers during chat conversations (e.g. age, brand likes, friends, mobile usage, and many more data points). Deeper profiling during a customer interaction allows companies to produce customized offers pinpointed at specific customers.
Sustaining an effective engagement campaign can take a surprising amount of work. You could limit yourself to following the leads from the data you collect, but following without interacting first will get you a very low follow-back ratio. More importantly, if you follow and then forget people, they may follow back, but they’ll soon forget you. A high number of followers who don’t reply to, mention or retweet your account are of no value. True engagement is long-term and repetitive.
