In the past months we have covered real-time client push services and seen the introduction of real-time client push technology and APIs to a number of services such as Superfeedr and DataSift. This focus on real-time push to client applications, and in particular web browser applications, is very exciting. The initial assumption would be that this movement has been triggered by an advancement in technology, and to some degree that is the case, but it might surprise you to know that the ability to push real-time updates into a web browser isn't new and has in fact been around for a number of years.
Oddcast, innovative web and mobile marketer, has released a cloud based text-to-speech (TTS) API: Vocalware. Releasing the platform via API allows developers to extend TTS to any browser-based or mobile application. Vocalware intends to become the one stop shop for cloud based speech functionality.
In May, PW reported on Gumroad's API that aimed to simplify online transactions. Indeed, the earlier release did move Gumroad towards its goal: "to democratize the ability to sell stuff online." However, Gumroad's latest offer, Platform API, simplifies the online buying process even further. The earlier API required buyers to register for a Gumroad account and required the use of links. The Platform API removes the need for links and buyer accounts. Instead, an entire transaction occurs on the merchant's site.
