Mashups using the same API (3035)
After launching its public beta a year ago, SimpleGeo is making public its storage product the company is based upon. Though the company has offered a few other geo APIs in the interim, the SimpleGeo Storage API geo database solution is the only product for which it charges and it appears to have lowered the price.
Online driving directions pioneer MapQuest had the first free directions web service a year ago. Now it followed up with the same engine based on the wiki-like Open Street Map data. The new, open service follows an open version of the MapQuest tiles.
Data marketplace InfoChimps continues its march to API-ify its most useful, sliceable datasets. The latest is a bundle it calls the InfoChimps Geo APIs and it makes available some extremely interesting location data from both public and private sources. The company has created a location data schema to unify sources, which include several place databases, Wikipedia articles and Zillow neighborhood boundaries.
