Mashups using the same API (633)
The most popular API, in terms of mashup count, is far and away the Google Maps API, which accounts for 41% of all mashups. But when it comes to the most popular pair of APIs, Flickr and YouTube mashups are the most common. Not to be outdone, Google Maps joins Flickr in a near second place.
With over 6700 mashups in our directory, it's good to go back and look at previously reviewed categories to see what is new. Last year we looked at mashups that let users share their photos. Today, we'll go back and look at the latest mashups using photo APIs including Flickr; still the king of photo APIs.
Popular iPhone photo-sharing app Instagram is a prime candidate for an API, which is probably why it already has one. Though documentation refers to it as an "unofficial" Instagram API, the fact that it uses the company's own servers makes it seem pretty official. Instagram has not launched the API, nor is an API linked from its home page. Yet, it has a mobile app and right column Twitter integration, both of which likely consume the API.
