33 New APIs: USPS, Xbox Music, and iCarpool

This week, we had 33 new APIs added to our API directory including a customer service solution, an LED light control application, and a WiFi and smart device enabled 3D printing solution. We also covered Hack, Facebook's new open source language, which speeds up the development cycle.

AcidJs IMDb FetcherAcidJs IMDb Fetcher API: The AcidJs IMDb Fetcher API can retrieve several kinds of data from IMDb, the Internet Movie Database, although it is not affiliated with IMDb. The API can (1) search IMDb for movies, television shows, or celebrities, (2) retrieve data for a given title (including information such as release date, duration, image, credits, description, country of origin), (3) retrieve person data (including name, biographical information, photos, filmography) and (4) link to IMDb images.

AppLamp Wifi LEDAppLamp Wifi LED API: The AppLamp Wifi LED lighting is a way to control your home LED lights with an APP from a smartphone or tablet. The API is a javascript API that can send commands to the AppLamp Wife Box over UDP. It can also control the Mi-Light Wi-Fi RGBW/RGB and Dual White bulbs, as well as the LED controllers, all with javascript.

BTCDigBTCDig API: BTCDig is a server that allows people to pool both their efforts and their rewards for mining Bitcoins. BTCDig supports both GPU and FPGA/ASIC mining hardware. BTCDig's User Account API can retrieve a user's balance and stats as well as a miner's stats. The Pool Stats API can retrieve the pool's state and stats as well as round state and block statistics.

CalibraceCalibrace API: Calibrace is a cloud-based recruitment and selection service for HR departments. Calibrace offers Candidate, Job, and Apply Without Registration APIs so that users can integrate Calibrace with other HR products, systems, and websites. The Candidate API allows users to add, update, and delete candidate profiles on Calibrace. The Job API allows users to add, update, and delete job profiles. The Apply Without Registration API allows users to apply for jobs without registering with the Calibrace system.

CitySDK ParticipationCitySDK Participation API: The City Service Development Kit (CitySDK) facilitates the creation of city digital services by helping cities make their data more accessible to developers, and creating a suite of tools to help developers use that data to create locally-focused applications and programs. The CitySDK Participation API is part of the Smart Participation concept, a feedback system allowing direct communication between citizens and city officials or representatives. It is available in a limited number of European cities. The City of Helsinki developed the pilot project, and hosts the API documentation.

Doodle3DDoodle3D API: Doodle3D enables 3D printing with a WiFi-Box that connects your devices (tablet, smartphone, laptop) to your 3D-printer. It also provides a simple sketching tool. With the Doodle3D REST API, the Doodle 3D WiFi Box enables wireless control of 3D printers. You can wirelessly send prints to your printers. You can control a printer using a Kinect, add embeddable print buttons to existing applications, and use sound input to influence a print.

FirmapiFirmapi API: Firmapi collects information on French businesses from publicly available legal notices and advertisements. The API allows a user to search by the nine-digit SIREN (French company registration number), by company name, or by postal code. A successful match will also return the company's number of establishments, registration date, and basic financial activity.

Forage CityForage City API: Forage City, created by Youth Radio, working with the food justice community, is an online and mobile app enabling users to find and share backyard fruit with neighbors and non-profits, making healthy food accessible. With the Forage City API you can create a Forage City application, making your city a Forage City.

Google Cloud DNSGoogle Cloud DNS API: Google offers access to a Domain Name System (DNS) management service utilizing Google's global infrastructure of name servers. The Google Cloud DNS API allows developers to store and look up IP addresses, and to offer services and applications without purchasing additional DNS servers and software.

iCarpooliCarpool API: iCarpool is a carpooling network. Services include Real-Time Ridesharing SMART Vanpool Management, and SchoolPool Module. The iCarpool API enables utilizing iCarpool's infrastructure in integrated applications. Developers can take the site to the users though integrated devices and applications.

Japan Seismic Hazard Information StationJapan Seismic Hazard Information Station API: The Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station, or J-SHIS, is part of Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention. It helps the Japanese public prepare for earthquakes by maintaining maps and numerical data regarding seismic activity, and allowing public access to its data via a RESTful API. API documentation is provided in Japanese.

KloudlessKloudless API: The Kloudless API allows developers to code once and integrate many cloud storage services into their apps. Developers can connect applications to multiple cloud storage services like Dropbox, Box, etc. Kloudless provides a customizable UI toolkit to integrate cloud storage features into applications on both web and mobile.

National Park Service NPMapNational Park Service NPMap API: National Park Service's NPMap team enables National Park Service employees, volunteers, and partners to create and embed maps, including nps.gov content management system, into their web pages. The NPMap is made of simple Javascript modules and returns coordinates in Decimal Degrees.

Peer5 DownloaderPeer5 Downloader API: Peer5 offers a JavaScript file downloader that uses both web servers and other site visitors (using Chrome or Firefox browsers) to make downloading files faster, but still secure and reliable. End users downloading a file simultaneously transmit a portion of the file's data to each other. The more end users download files, the more data sharing takes place, which helps decrease bandwidth costs, and increase download speeds. If no end users are available, or if p2p sharing becomes interrupted, the download is temporarily cached, and the process reverts to your web server. API users can use the Peer5 platform for files, video, audio, and site acceleration.

ReamazeReamaze API: Reamaze is a lightweight, brandable customer support service that allows users to respond to any type of customer message from their email account. Response templates help shorten response times, and built-in collision detection prevents duplicate responses. Users can create public knowledge bases and forums where customers can search for their own answers and offer feedback. Built-in reporting keeps users apprised of response times and conversation volume.

RoutificRoutific API: Routific is a tool for scheduling optimized routes for fleets of vehicles. It is designed to help reduce the number of trucks and drivers needed to complete routes as well as the total distance traveled. Users can input their data and let Routific optimize their schedules, or if they are already using another system, they can integrate with Routific's routing engine via API.

Standard Analytics IOStandard Analytics IO API: Standard Analytics IO is designed to improve the reproducibility of scientific results by linking scientific content with its original data and analysis methods. The Standard Analytics IO REST API provides programmatic access to data, which is stored according to the linked data package ontology as JSON-LD documents.

TreasuryDirectTreasuryDirect API: People can retrieve data from TreasuryDirect.gov programmatically using RESTful APIs. The Treasury Securities API lets users get information on announced securities, auctioned securities, particular types of securities, or specific individual securities. The Debt API lets users get the most recent debt data or the debt data for a given date. API users can also perform searches for securities and debt data.

US DOE Asset ScoreUS DOE Asset Score API: The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy of the United States Department of Energy provides this API to help rate commercial buildings on energy efficiency according to its national standards. Using a variety of physical characteristics and likely usage, the tool can rate a building's energy efficiency, including evaluating its systems and identifying areas for possible upgrades.

US DOE Buildings Performance DatabaseUS DOE Buildings Performance Database API: The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy of the United States Department of Energy provides this API to share aggregate statistical information about energy performance on hundreds of thousands of commercial and residential buildings in the U.S. This API can be used to create your own applications and visualizations, and to estimate EUI, or energy use intensity, for buildings. EUI is measured in energy use per square foot per year.

UserEchoUserEcho API: UserEcho is a complete, brandable customer support solution for managing customer feedback. It comes with a live chat service for talking to potential customers and a ticketing support system for assisting current ones. UserEcho is compatible with Google Analytics, though it also provides its own feedback and comment reports and community contributor statistics. UserEcho's Base API provides read-only access to data. The Advanced API allows users to create and maintain objects, but it is currently under development.

USPS Customs FormsUSPS Customs Forms API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. This set of Customs Forms APIs are used both by the USPS to approve mail that is leaving the country, and by authorities in countries that require the forms to approve mail for delivery within their jurisdictions.

USPS Domestic Mail Service StandardsUSPS Domestic Mail Service Standards API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. The Domestic Mail Service Standards APIs can help predict when a package will arrive at its destination. APIs are available for Priority, Package (which includes Standard Post Bound Printed Matter, Library Mail and Media Mail) First Class, and Express Mail types. The USPS reiterates that these are predictions, or standards, and not guaranteed dates.

USPS Electronic Merchandise Return ServiceUSPS Electronic Merchandise Return Service API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. With this the Electronic Merchandise Return Service API, senders can generate merchandise return labels to make package returns simpler for recipients.

USPS Hold for Pickup USPS Hold for Pickup API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that customers may integrate into their own websites to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. This service allows an application to find a postal facility where Hold for Pickup service is offered, and to create Hold for Pickup labels for Express, Priority, or First Class mail.

USPS International Shipping LabelsUSPS International Shipping Labels API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. This set of International shipping APIs creates labels for senders wishing to use Priority Mail Express International, Priority Mail International, or First Class Mail International services.

USPS Online Express Mail LabelUSPS Online Express Mail Label API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that customers may integrate into their own websites to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. With this service, senders can create a Priority Mail Express label and an online customer record for a parcel shipped within the U.S.

USPS Open and Distribute LabelsUSPS Open and Distribute Labels API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. With this Open/Distribute Priority API, senders can expedite batch shipping by enclosing individual pieces of mail in an approved USPS Priority shipping container to be opened and distributed at a mail processing facility or destination delivery unit.

USPS Package PickupUSPS Package Pickup API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. This suite of 5 Package Pickup API tools work together to help determine pickup service availability, schedule a pickup, cancel a pickup, change a pickup, and track a requested pickup. These tools work with the free, next day package pickup service, not the fee-based pickup on demand USPS service.

USPS SDC Service StandardsUSPS SDC Service Standards API: The U.S. Postal Service provides a suite of USPS Web Tools that can be used to validate or find mailing addresses, track and confirm mail delivery, calculate shipping rates, and create domestic or international shipping labels. The Service Delivery Calculator API provides delivery date commitments, not just estimates, for all mail classes.

Wildlife Rehabilitation MD Closed WRMDWildlife Rehabilitation MD Closed WRMD API: Wildlife Rehabilitation MD (WRMD) is an on-line medical database. It is designed by and for wildlife rehabilitators to collect, manage and analyze data for patients. It is a record-keeping system that stores and manages large amounts of data and allows for data mining and quick data entry. With the Closed WRMD API, developers can extend the capacity of the database. Using actions and filters, it can be used to create extensions for better user experience. Metaboxes, registrations, and helper fuctions are also available.

Xbox Music DeveloperXbox Music Developer API: Xbox Music provides access to common features of online music sources: the ability to purchase MP3s; PC, Web, and mobile music and video streaming; customizable artist-based radio. The RESTful API provides access to the above Xbox Music services, provides metadata on artists and albums, and offers an affiliate program to share revenue with developers. It allows developers to track new releases and chart trends based on countries and genres. It also offers a feature where developers can remix select Xbox Music content and incorporate it into apps or programs.

YouMagineYouMagine API: YouMagine is a 3D printing community. The YouMagine API enables sharing and collaboration within that community. Applications include a web-based design app that allows you to post designs, a desktop application that enables you to upload projects, and a javascript widget that can showcase designs.
