37 New APIs: WebKnox, Experian, and NationBuilder

This week, we had 37 new APIs added to our API directory including multiple ontology-based content extraction service APIs, an app management service, a mobile payment service, and a cloud-managed printing service. We also discussed how open APIs are disruptingthe business model of Ecommerce. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.

6px6px API: 6px is an API that provides image processing and analysis services. It is hosted on a scalable infrastructure and comes with SDKs written for PHP, Python, Ruby, iOS, Android, Node.js, and Javascript. Users must sign up with 6px to access further information, and the 6px service is still in beta.

AmenimapsAmenimaps API: AmeniMaps is a collection of offline Android Maps showing amenity locations in cities and other interesting places worldwide. The AmeniMaps API can return the location of the amenities near any specified coordinates. Amenity types include toilets, ATMs, banks, post offices, bakeries, bars, bicycle rentals, cafes, public drinking water, pharmacies, playgrounds, subway entrances, and much more.

BillogramBillogram API: Billogram is cloud based invoicing service that allows small businesses to easily keep track of their cash flow. The service provides real time information about incoming payments as well as the status of invoices. Billogram offers a REST API that allows third party applications and merchants to create and send invoices through the Billogram platform. Supported actions include Fetch invoice, Create new invoice and Update invoice. Results are delivered as JSON.

CloudBrokerCloudBroker API: CloudBroker offers scientific and technical applications in the cloud. The platform enables users to offer and use compute-intensive applications on different cloud computing infrastructures. CloudBroker provides users with a REST-based web service API. API methods include Jobs, Accesses, Organizations, Users, Resources, and more. Responses are provided in XML.

CoredinationCoredination API: Coredination is a mobile workforce management service that offers job dispatch, work reports and location sharing in order to reduce paperwork and improve the flow of mobile business. Coredination is a one-stop solution for constant access to realtime information about coworkers, jobs, and work. Coredination offers a RESTfull API for the integration of Coredination services with third party applications. API resources include jobs and their workflow states, user accounts, work reports and invoicing, and customers and projects. An API key is required.

CreativeWorx TimeTrackerCreativeWorx TimeTracker API: CreativeWorx TimeTracker is an automated time/activity solution that captures how users spend their time. It captures time spent in applications (such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite) as well as more general tools (such as calendar, email, browser, etc.). After capturing the time/activity, it also assigns the correct job code to the task. That timesheet data can then be passed to any other platform for invoicing, analytics, and other tasks. The TimeTracker API allows users to integrate the time tracking service with external systems to monitor that activity. An account is required with service.

CrossbarCrossbar API: Tvärslå (trans. Crossbar) is a Nordic translation dictionary managed by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. It consists of multiple merged dictionaries and allows users to translate between Danish, English, Finnish, Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, and Swedish. Users can access Crossbar programmatically using SOAP calls. Crossbar and all of its documentation are provided solely in Swedish.

Cubeia SocialCubeia Social API: Cubeia Social is a social poker network that enables anyone to create and run their own social poker site using play money. Cubeia Social handles the technical aspects of the game so that operators can focus on building their brand. Cubeia Social exposes a REST API that offers operators programmatic access to the system. API resources include Account, Leaderboard, Lobby, Operator, PlayersOnline, System, Tester, and User. An API key is required.

EAN-SearchEAN-Search API: EAN-Search is a product search service where users can type in a European Article Number(EAN) and the site returns what product it references. The database contains over 24 million entries. Users can also search by product and receive a list of related products and the corresponding EAN numbers. The EAN-Search API is commercial available and facilitates integration of the database within third-party services. An account is required with service.

eContent.MapseContent.Maps API: eContent.Maps provides an interactive map of housing, events, dining places, tours, and attractions that covers Germany along with parts of Austria and the surrounding countries. Users can set custom markers, get local weather information, find routes between locations, and much more using the web interface or the SOAP API.

EVO Snap*EVO Snap* API: EVO Snap* is a payment service for developers that enables them to simplify payment acceptance and business operations for merchants and customers. Developers can create customized commerce applications and services to support customers across POS, mobile and eCommerce channels. EVO Snap* streamlines the inclusion of multiple payment and value-added services via one integration, and delivers bundles of services to developers through a single family of APIs. API documentation is available by request.

Experian RKI-RegisterExperian RKI-Register API: Experian is an information services company that serves people in more than 80 countries. The RKI-Register provides a database where Danish businesses can search for bad debt. The database can be used to find information on potential or existing customers and determine the state of their credit, helping companies to avoid financial losses and bad debt. The website and all documentation are provided exclusively in Danish.

ezeepezeep API: Ezeep is a Cloud-Managed Printing services that allows users to integrate their print infrastructure into a single, manageable, unit. The service allows users to rely on a single management system for the print infrastructure, utilize a flexible and scalable service, and use a manufacturer neutral system. An account is required with service, API documentation available upon request.

GetasmsGetasms API: Mobile marketing SMS service Getasms is platform for sending SMS messages over the internet. Getasms enables users to realize mobile marketing campaigns by allowing them to send SMS to a massive number of email addresses simultaneously. The Getasms REST API allows developers to extend the functionality of their applications by integrating components of SMS marketing. Use the API to Synchronize address books and messages with CRM systems, Generate lists based on the actions of clients, and more. An API key is required.

Henrico County Public Crime Data AccessHenrico County Public Crime Data Access API: Henrico County, located in the state of Virginia, provides public online access to its local crime data using two web services. The ICR (Incident Crime Report) service can be used to search for past offenses. The CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch system) service can be used to search for past calls for service. Both services are accessible via SOAP calls.

LivehelpGenieLivehelpGenie API: LivehelpGenie allows users to chat with their site visitors in real time and track visitors' movements across the website. Users can also create and manage canned responses, block unwanted IP addresses, and attach persistent "notes" to visitors in case they return later or need to be transferred to another operator. The live chat feature is fully customizable and brandable. All chats are SSL-encrypted. LivehelpGenie provides a SOAP API for managing users and resellers.

MailinatorProMailinatorPro API: MailinatorPro is a service for reading, managing, and controlling emails for an entire domain. Users can access its functions using a web-based Ajax interface, POP3, IMAP, or the REST API. It should be noted that the API methods are not accessible at the lowest pricing level of MailinatorPro, but the other methods are available at all price levels.

myHealthAccountmyHealthAccount API: myHealthAccount is a patient centric medical record service from the Swedish company Infogosoft. Clinics can use myHealthAccount modules to send medical records and images to patients accounts and patients can use myHealthAccount to gather their medical records, vaccinations, and drug lists all in one place. The myHealthAccount REST API allows developers to write applications that access myHealthAccount services. API methods exist for folders, vaccines, and documents. Most responses are in JSON format. An API key is required.

NationBuilderNationBuilder API: NationBuilder is an open platform for users to create online communities centered around issues relevant to them. Users can create community organization websites, access a people database, and use communication tools such as email, text messaging and social media.The NationBuilder API helps developers to create community organizing-driven applications by integrating various service endpoints within third-party applications. These endpoints can be information on people, campaign data, donation data, calendar information, event data, and other calls. The API uses REST calls and returns JSON.

Open Fraud Detection ProjectOpen Fraud Detection Project API: The Open Fraud Detection Project (OFDEP) is a fraud-detection API that is designed to detect suspicious users early on, preventing activities like fraudulent purchases, invalid account creations, and comment spam. Security devices can query OFDEP to determine the odds that a given user or transaction is bad. The API is currently in beta and supports IP, email address, and username look-ups. It returns results in XML, but JSON will also be supported in the near future.

Outpost.Travel PublicOutpost.Travel Public API: Outpost.Travel helps users find affordable vacation rentals, rideshares, and local activities all around the world. This information is collected from the databases of many other travel sites to give users centralized access to all of their information. Outpost.Travel provides a Public API for accessing its site data, including 700,000 rental listings, tens of thousands of rideshares, and 30,000 local attractions. This API is still new, so users may encounter some bugs.

ParcelCheckParcelCheck API: ParcelCheck is a package tracking and courier aggregator. The API is designed for e-commerce based solutions. It allows online merchants to keep customers updated where their parcel is from multiple local and international couriers. The API provides for live integrated tracking and includes features to allow users to add tracking results to any page as well as get email status notifications for many courier services such as Aramex, Berco, ChurcHillsInternational, CourierIT, DHL, DPE, EMS UniversalPostalUnion, Fastway, InterTownTransport, iParcel, MDSCollivery, Postnet, RAM, SAPO, SouthAfricanPostOffice, SpeedServices, Supaswift, TheCourierGuy, TNT and more. PlaybasisPlaybasis API: Playbasis helps businesses increase audience engagement through gamification. Businesses can use Playbasis to reward their customers for favorable actions using badges, points, etc. User engagement data can be collected, stored, and exported using Playbasis's social CRM. The Playbasis API allows developers to interact with the Playbasis web service, which is responsible for processing users' actions and executing the appropriate events.

SEOGeniesSEOGenies API: SEOGenies provides their customers with search engine optimization services. They submit articles to article directories and article submission sites, submit press releases to PR sites, make social bookmarking submissions, post in forums, and guarantee five keyword searches on popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo. SEOGenies also provides SEO consulting, regular SEO maintenance activities, and monthly search engine ranking reports.

StatPlatStatPlat API: StatPlat is a professional football data analysis platform, delivering value added data services to aid clubs, bettors, and media groups. The StatPlat API provides programmatic access to platform content. Data types include information on competitions, fixtures, and team ratings.

Tradu24 TranslationTradu24 Translation API: Tradu24 is a translation, localization, and interpreting site that employs over 10,000 language specialist around the world to translate, dub, subtitle, transcribe, localize, and provide many other language-based services. The Tradu24 API allows users to integrate the language translation services of Tradu24 into content management systems so that content is automatically submitted and translated into designated languages.

UserAppUserApp API: UserApp provides user management and authentication services. It can handle user login, permissions, storage, sign-ups, payments, and more. Some features that will be available in the near future include the ability to export user data and to host data on one's own servers. Developers can access UserApp's functions directly online or programmatically via API.

WebKnox JokesWebKnox Jokes API: Begun as a research project from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Technology Dresden, WebKnox is an ontology-driven fact extraction engine built to provide direct, fast, and complete answers to questions on any topic a user can think of. To answer a question WebKnox uses external services that might have previously provided an answer or computes an answer using its knowledge base. If those options fail, WebKnox tries to find an answer on the fly. WebKnox hosts a suite of REST APIs delivering a range of web services. The WebKnox Jokes API provides developer access to over 30,000 jokes. In addition to delivering up to 10 random jokes, the API allows applications to search jokes by category, rating, or keyword.

WebKnox MediaWebKnox Media API: Begun as a research project from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Technology Dresden, WebKnox is an ontology-driven fact extraction engine built to provide direct, fast, and complete answers to questions on any topic a user can think of. To answer a question WebKnox uses external services that might have previously provided an answer or computes an answer using its knowledge base. If those options fail, WebKnox tries to find an answer on the fly. WebKnox hosts a suite of REST APIs delivering a range of web services. The WebKnox Media API allows applications to search images, create video thumbnails, or create animated GIFs from a video or series of images.

WebKnox ProxiesWebKnox Proxies API: Begun as a research project from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Technology Dresden, WebKnox is an ontology-driven fact extraction engine built to provide direct, fast, and complete answers to questions on any topic a user can think of. To answer a question WebKnox uses external services that might have previously provided an answer or computes an answer using its knowledge base. If those options fail, WebKnox tries to find an answer on the fly. WebKnox hosts a suite of REST APIs delivering a range of web services. The WebKnox Proxies API allows applications and websites to retrieve public proxies. The API can deliver proxies in a batch or individually, and allows users to report dead proxies.

The API is able to detect the language of a given text, grade the quality of an article, find mentions of locations and other entities, find mentions of dates, auto-correct a text, detect a text’s sentiment, and tag a text with part-of-speech tags.

If those options fail, WebKnox tries to find an answer on the fly. WebKnox hosts a suite of REST APIs delivering a range of web services. The WebKnox Words API allows applications to retrieve the singular, plural, present, past, or past participle form of a given word, as well as a list of synonyms.

ZeeboxZeebox API: Zeebox is a free app that is designed to be used as a second screen while watching TV. It can help users get additional information about a show, find extra content, socialize with people watching the same show, and discover new shows to watch. The Zeebox app works on laptops, iPhones, iPads, Androids, and BlackBerry smartphones. Developers can integrate with Zeebox via REST or JavaScript API.
