Short is the new long. Twitter keeps you to 140 characters, which means sometimes you have to cut things short. Help make sense of the acronyms with the Abbreviations API (our our Abbreviations API profile). Pass a term and receive its many meanings, along with the context where each meaning is used.

Above are the default results when searching for ASAP. To hone in on the results you need, you can search by category. Perhaps help your users make sense of short content by automatically looking up a series of three or more uppercase letters? You can sort by popularity (here's the ASAP example) to find the abbreviation most likely to be a match.

The same company has several other APIs, including synonyms and definitions. See other similar services in our directory of 122 reference APIs.

Adam DuVander Hi! I'm Developer Communications Director for SendGrid and former Executive Editor of ProgrammableWeb. I currently serve as a Contributing Editor. If you have API news, or are interested in writing for ProgrammableWeb, please contact editor@programmableweb.com Though I'm a fan of anything API-related, my particular interest is in mapping. I've published a how-to book, Map Scripting 101, to get anyone started making maps on websites. In a not-so-distant past life I wrote for Wired and Webmonkey.
