Good Technology Launches Good Work to Help Enterprises Build Custom, Secure Mobile Apps

Good Technology has launched Good Work, an enterprise mobility management productivity suite. Good Work makes use of the APIs available on the Good Dynamics platform to create secure process workflows for business teams. ProgrammableWeb spoke with Lynn Lucas, chief marketing officer, about the new product release.

A recent survey of midmarket companies by Good Technology found that while two-thirds support bring-your-own-device policies, half are concerned about privacy and security risks. That is slowing down future plans to make more of mobile, however — many are keen to make use of mobile apps for basics like email and document editing as well as to channel tasks along industry- and organization-specific workflow processes.

So what is needed to meet these enterprise needs is a secure enterprise mobility management approach that allows companies to develop productivity apps to empower their mobile workforce.

That’s the reasoning behind the newly released Good Work, aimed at helping enterprises quickly create and deploy apps in a secure mobile environment.

“What is really groundbreaking is that IT can get up and running in minutes,” explains Lucas. “With this solution, they can have a full enterprise mobility management solution that gives them the same security that customers enjoy with Good in a cloud-based manner.

“It is built on the Good Dynamics platform, so we are continually adding Good Dynamics platform capabilities to Good Work. Clients can build their own custom apps on the platform, using APIs to connect various capabilities and integrate with a range of cloud solutions.”

The first set of apps usually created by an enterprise is for email, and then for document management and editing capabilities on mobile devices. Good Work includes some curated workflows to incorporate tools like Polaris and iAnnotate for document editing, and also has specific workflows created to integrate with its Good for Salesforce1 product.

Clients can then draw from the 1,300-plus apps on the Good Dynamics platform to incorporate into their own custom apps using Good Work.

Lucas points to presence as a key example of the type of Good Dynamics API integrations that customers can add to their Good Work app creation environment:

Presence creates the ability to quickly see colleagues across the enterprise. It is so interesting as a productivity enhancer. One of our customers has developed a custom app using our APIs. The app helps their clients reach their financial adviser so they can easily see when their adviser is available or not, so these apps can really extend beyond the enterprise employees.

Good Work is included in all Good enterprise mobility management suites for on-premises deployments. Cloud-based deployments are expected to be available at the end of the month. A beta version of Good Work is available now.
