Open API Growth: a Visualization

The fall issue of GOOD uses data from our quickly-expanding API directory to show its growth over time, including some important APIs along the way. In the same infographic (below), you can also see promenant open government data initiatives from around the world.

The graphic was produced for GOOD by Visual.ly, a platform that lets people share infographics. Soon it will also help anyone to create something as visually compelling as this. See Out in the Open at GOOD.

As of today, our directory contains 3,904 APIs. In March there were only 3,000. We have already added more than all of 2010.

Adam DuVander -- Adam heads developer relations at Orchestrate, a database-as-a-service company. He's spent many years analyzing APIs and developer tools. Previously he worked at SendGrid, edited ProgrammableWeb and wrote for Wired and Webmonkey. Adam is also the author of mapping API cookbook Map Scripting 101.
