It seems that photo applications, be it mobile or web, are making their presence felt via small but innovative ways in which they bring photographs together. Facebook is the largest photo sharing site available today and if you can somehow tap into that to create an interesting social experience, the results are bound to be dramatic, as Pixable’s Photofeed application has managed to do.

Photofeed, which describes itself as a free, fun and unique way to discover and explore trending Facebook photos has just managed to get itself 100,000 users in 10 days and the number is still rising. In one of the simple but most effective ways of using the Facebook API, Photofeed looks into the photo streams of each of your friends and then categorizes them in various ways like popularity, best of the month, best of year and even categories like photos with guys/girls and top profile pics.

Photofeed uses the number of likes and comments on the photos to rank them in its clever fashion. The social experience is retained by allowing you to like and comment on the photos from within the application itself. But that is not all, it surprises you with stats like which of your friends has uploaded the most photos (The Photo Pros), your top Facebook photos and the clever “Your Facebook Photo Papparazi,” based on the friend that has tagged you the most. Each of these stats can be posted back to your Facebook status.

Photofeed is an interesting take on Facebook photos with a sticky experience. Give it a spin to see how it has used the API and let us know of similar applications.
