Samsung is gearing up for the launch of its own mobile operating system Tizen by throwing up the Tizen App Challenge 2013. Samsung has pinned a lot of hopes on Tizen OS with a few devices ready for public release within a couple of months. The success of the new mobile OS will be heavily dependent on the number of applications available in the Tizen App Store and this challenge is one of many incentives that Samsung is throwing at developers to boost the Application count at the time of official release.
The Tizen App Challenge 2013 is open to all developers and the last date for submissions is November 1, 2013. Developers can write Native and/or HTML5 based mobile web applications as part of this challenge. There is no limit to the number of entries per developer and the only requirement is that it should be submitted and/or approved to the Tizen Store to qualify for inclusion. There are 2 categories: Games and Non-Games with further subcategories, leaving the total at 9 categories.
Samsung is ready to reward winners with very high cash incentives. There is a total of $4M in cash prizes. In each of the 9 categories, there is 1 Grand Prize ($200,ooo), 2 Runner-up prizes ($100,000) and 3 Honorable Mentions ($40,000). This definitely makes up for one of the largest cash awards in a contest in recent times.
