Zombies have taken the world by storm. You find them in some of the most popular games in our Smart phones. May is being celebrated as the official Zombie month and Sensis, provider of Australian Business Directory Search API is challenging developers to come up with an application that will help humans survive the Zombie apocalypse with the winner taking home a bounty of $2500.

Sensis announced the contest at their blog and developers need to create a mobile app or a website that uses the Sensis API (SAPI) to help humans survive. The contest is open to everyone and the deadline to submit your applications is May 21. Your application must be available publicly at no charge for the judges to evaluate it. The winner will be announced on the same day.

The Sensis API provides access to a fully maintained and comprehensive collection of Australian local business listings, sourced from the Yellow Pages and White Pages Directories. The API is RESTful with JSON responses. For more information on the API, visit the Developers portal.

To get started, you will need to get a Zombie API Key by requesting one. Your application will be judged on various criteria like Originality, Design and SAPI Integration among others. It is going to be interesting to see what developers come up with since the contest clearly states that your application should try to address the following questions:

  • How will you survive and thrive during the inevitable zombie apocalypse?
  • What should you have prepared?
  • What do you need to know when the walking dead come looking for brains?
  • How do you make your way in a post-apocalyptic world?

So get started with your mission to help us survive the Zombie Apocalypse. For full details on the contest, please refer to the original announcement.
