athenahealth teams up with Mashery. Nevatech's Sentinent 3.1 has new API support. Plus: Securenet's new mobile payment tools, Swisscom selects Apigee, and 3 new APIs.

athenahealth Teams up With Mashery for API Initiative

athenahealth, a company that helps hospitals and medical practices automate their records, billing, appointments, and improve their bottom lines, has teamed up with Mashery to launch a new API initiative.

According to Ki Mae Heussner at Gigaom, athenahealth is looking for developers to use data from its anonymized electronic medical records (EMR) and other practice-related data to build tools that enhance the workflow and business practices of medical providers.

"Starting this week, developers and providers will be able to access APIs that connect to athenahealth’s network of 40,000 providers nationwide. With access to doctors’ appointment data, patient’s medical history (anonymized , billing information and more, the company hopes developers will be able to create an ecosystem of apps on top of athenahealth’s EMR service in the same way that third-party developers have created apps on top of Facebook’s Open Graph."

The next step is to create an app store for health care providers, similar to Apple's. Those interested in building something can look at athenahealth's press release and contact their "more disruption please" (MDP) program to discuss partnering opportunities.

Nevatech's Sentinent 3.1 has New Support for APIs

Service oriented architecture (SOA) management company Nevatch has just released version 3.1 of its Sentinent application, which manages APIs. Among other tasks, it's good at helping companies make the shift from legacy SOA architecture to APIs.

According to the press release, Andrew Slivker, CTO of Nevatech, says that Swntinent works with APIs both on premises as well as in the cloud,

“Our customers build modern SOA architectures and public APIs and ask for deeper integration between design-time governance and modern runtime automated management. Sentinet 3.1 responds to these requests by enabling customers to put their SOA software assets under comprehensive governance and agile runtime management. Sentinet helps customers to address critical and common SOA infrastructural challenges for a variety of environments.”

According to Sam Vanhoutte, CTO & Partner at Codit, the European market leader in Microsoft Integration Solutions, it's a welcome upgrade, in no small part because it is so good at SOA governance with Microsoft technologies:

"We are excited about Sentinet 3.1 new design-time capabilities. We know they will be much welcomed by our customers. We are particularly pleased that this new version enables us to easily make the bridge between modern RESTful services and existing SOAP services."

Built on Microsoft technology, it supports both SOAP and REST stacks, and the Windows Azure SDK. A powerful tool to integrate Microsoft and non-Microsoft APIs and services, Sentinent is platform neutral.

API News You Shouldn't Miss

3 New APIs

Today we had 3 new APIs added to our API directory including a data syncing and migration service, a website and server monitoring service and a story creation and sharing application. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.

FoxweaveFoxweave API: Foxweave is a service that allows users to sync and migrate data and documents across all cloud and other applications and databases.

The Foxweave API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Foxweave with other applications. Some example API methods include syncing data, migrating data, and managing account information.

NodePingNodePing API: NodePing is monitoring service for websites and servers. NodePing monitors websites and servers for security threats, hacking, and browser blacklisting and notifies the owner when an instance is detected.

The NodePing API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of NodePing with other applications. Some example API methods include managing accounts, managing contacts, and retrieving and managing notifications.

WattpadWattpad API: Wattpad is an application for web, mobile, and tablets that allows users to create and share stories. Wattpad also allows users to read stories and interact with the authors within the application.

The Wattpad API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Wattpad with other applications. Some example API methods include retrieving story lists, retrieving story character information, and retrieving story categories.
