Travelport launches its API for Asia. Box and Dignity create health education contest with $100,000 prize and plus benefits. Plus: Parasoft API testing provides automated and continuous testing, Adaptly becomes Twitter Ads API partner, and 20 new APIs.

Travelport Apps Made Possible by New API for Asia

Travelport, a company with 3,500 employees and a presence in 170 countries, has created the first universal API for aggregating content from its global distribution system (GDS).

As the company shows on its API documentation page, you get access to all that content through the one API:

"The Universal API provides comprehensive travel content that enables a more complete offering to customers – allowing you to maximize customer satisfaction as well as revenue opportunities. It aggregates shopping and booking capabilities into a single and seamless user experience."

The advantages of a single API that does it all are clear: reduced complexity and cost, greater efficiency in delivery of travel-related applications, and streamlines your internal processes to reduce costs-per-booking. It also enables you to capitalize on optional services for up-sell and cross-sell opportunities.

Box and Dignity Issue $100k App Challenge

The cloud file-sharing company Box has teamed up with Dignity Health, a California not for profit that operates hospitals and other health facilities in 17 states, to announce a challenge for developers revolutionizing the way doctors educate patients.

In the details of the challenge, the team spells out a brilliant opportunity for innovation:

"Too often, patients receive critical information about new diagnoses, treatment plans, and surgical procedures in the most ineffective means possible: paper-based pamphlets and Xeroxed handouts. Even when providers use software applications like Electronic Health Records (EHR) or patient portals, they still rely on embedded content in those applications for patient education. The content is rarely personalized or easy to read, only localized to a few secondary languages, and rarely vetted by the patient’s personal physician. ... Patients and family ... resort to generic searches online, get more scared, and come back to their doctors with even more questions – or worse, don’t communicate at all."

Got answers? Here's where to apply. The contest launched Octoboer 2 and runs through the submission deadline of January 10, 2014.
