The Pfam database is a large collection of information on protein domain families. Domains are the functional regions that generally comprise proteins. The presence of different domains in varying combinations produces the diverse assortment of proteins found in nature. The REST-based Pfam API provides programmatic access to the various methods of querying the Pfam database, such as searching for information on a specific sequence or members of a certain domain family.
