Pinterest calls itself a "virtual pinboard," allowing users to select photos from web pages to share with their friends. This process, called pinning, helps users collect ideas, recipes, inspiration or anything that can be found in a photo on a web page.
The Pinterest API provides developers access to an authenticated user's pinboards and pins. The API provides detailed user data, as well as the home feed for a user, pins, likes, following, followers and the ability to unfollow. Developers can also access information about specific boards and pins, including creating boards, adding pins, categories and adding/removing likes.
The API allows businesses to integrate with Pinterest's social media platform in an effort engage with customers. With the APIs, developers can access a site's top repins, most recent pins, related pins, most clicked through pins and pins resulting from specific search terms.
The API makes its data available via JSON only, with requests also wrapped as JSON. Though the official documentation has been removed, we've included a cache of the page, as the API still appears to be supported.
The following is a list of SDKs from our SDK directory that matched your search term. Though your definition of an SDK may differ, in our world, we define SDKs as platform- specific tools for consuming existing APIs of the sort we list in our API directory. For example, the Ruby SDK for consuming the Twitter Ads API. If you think an SDK, API, or other asset is missing from our directory, be sure to check our guidelines for making contributions to ProgrammableWeb.
Android developers can create applications with Pinterest's Pin It button SDK. Version 1.3 allows one to create content inside an app with a few lines of Java code. Because the content is visual, developers should be aware that 2 types of images are supported: image URL and image URI. To work with the SDK, users can register a Client ID. The files consist of the library: pinit-sdk-1.0.jar, the java doc: pinit-sdk-1.0-javadoc.jar, the zipped api doc: apidocs.zip, the Pinterest main apk that works with the Pin It feature: pinterest-release.apk, and the demo project using the SDK's Pin It feature: PinItDemo.zip. The SDK could be used to engage Android users with the Pin It button.
Pinterest's Pin It button SDK enables the development of iOS applications. This kit allows one to generate Pinterest content with just a few lines of code. At the moment, this resource only supports adding an image from a URL. However, future plans include adding local images. To use the SDK, it is recommended to register with a Client ID in order to download the kit with its respective documentation. Files include the library: Pinterest.embeddedframework, docs, and the demo project using the SDK's pinit feature: PinItDemo.zip.
