Cisco has introduced the Aironet Developer Platform (ADP) which gives developers an easy to use platform for building IoT applications with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy devices. ADP currently supports Cisco's Aironet 3800 series access points, and is designed for use with off the shelf products.
Aerohive launched a new API-driven platform that pulls data from Wi-Fi networks for use by various business applications. The platform includes a number of APIs, primarily around location, identity, and monitoring. The platform exchanges data with both network devices and end user devices.
Google has just announced a nice addition to the Google Gears Geolocation API: the ability to use WiFi on laptops to locate users to within 200m accuracy in major desktop browsers in hundreds of cities around the world. We originally covered the GeoLocation API back in August, when Google first announced the release of the API for use in mobile devices to get a more precise estimate of a user's location.
