JavaScript Object Notation

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) can be thought of as shorthand for JavaScript. It is a simple way to represent and share structured data. JSON is lightweight, human-readable, and easy for machines to parse. These attributes make it the data format of choice for most web APIs. JSON objects use a structured data format consisting of fields, and data properties correspond to these fields. Data values can be text, array, numbers, strings, or boolean. For example, a JSON object to represent a blogger's account may include fields like name, email, and website.
