Service mesh

A service mesh is a framework that helps tie together decentralized software components. It used to be that companies designed single, interconnected, monolithic applications. Nowadays, companies build and release more partitioned, compartmentalized software components called microservices. These components are often shipped with their own runtime environments and proxies. Service mesh helps orchestrate and synchronize these otherwise disparate elements. Service mesh tools often offer a control plane and a data plane. A control plane helps set configuration options for a microservice, and the data plane implements these controls and filters traffic accordingly. Using service mesh architecture, companies can route traffic and manage their service operations more efficiently across a network of microservices.
