User Experience (UX) refers to the experience end-users have when using a software application. An application with a high-quality user experience is easy to understand and navigate. A poor UX could mean friction and dissatisfaction. UX can be applied to any frontend, or User Interface (UI), that faces a user. This could be a web-browser, mobile app, wearable, voice assistant, IoT device, remote control, or other consumer appliance. UX design thinking typically applies to digital experiences, but the principles can be adopted to other human-facing interactions, such as built environments, architecture, or retail.
