One of the cumbersome chores associated with using a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) platform is moving data in and out, especially for mobile computing applications that need to do this frequently.
As platform-as-a-service (PaaS) starts to gain traction in the enterprise, an opportunity to standardize on a common application development platform—both on-premises and in the cloud—is starting to present itself. Case in point is a new alliance between Microsoft and Apprenda under which Apprenda will deploy its PaaS environment on top of Microsoft Azure.
One of the more problematic elements of building any application is managing end user identities. Writing the code to manage who gets to access any given application not only is time consuming; it doesn’t usually add much in the way of unique value to the application.
