"Every day, movies expire from Netflix Watch Instantly," Twitter's Robin Sloan tweeted. So, the one-time Current TV online strategist decided to do something about it. Using the Netflix API, he wrote a program to find the movies that are about to expire. Then, he tweets them out from @queuenoodle, an account that has already hit nearly 4,000 followers in a day.
Social movie review web site FilmCrave recently released a new API (our FilmCrave API Profile) that provides developers with access to various types of content, including member movie reviews, movie plots, and movie ratings. Originally developed as an API for use by one of its business partners, FilmCrave decided to make the API publicly available in order to encourage third parties to integrate FilmCrave's content with other web sites.
This week, Segment.io co-founder Peter Reinhardt blogged about building The Reel Box, a mash-up site launched in March which displays local movie showtimes from Fandango alongside Rotten Tomatoes ratings, YouTube trailer videos, and Google Maps to each theatre. At first glance, it looks insanely useful--so why is it more likely to receive a cease-and-desist letter than a VC offer?
