The Associated Press Ruby library loads election data from the AP into MySQL. This code has been used by The Huffington Post since the 2012 with the main goal to obtain fast results of the AP's FTP server and into MySQL. It may not have been the zombie apocalypse, but the recent government shutdown stopped the flow of open data via APIs and raised questions about how API developers and API providers can best handle a crisis in future.
