Twitter has just announced the availability of custom timelines, a brand new type of timelime that allows developers to have more control regarding organization and delivery of Tweets on the Twitter platform. Twitter has also announced the launch of the Custom Timelines API which is in beta and available to a small group of developers selected and approved by Twitter.
As we've seen with Twitter's announcement of the changes to the new Twitter API, the company's main focus seems to be on enterprise and of course, the bottom line. This becomes even more evident with the news that HootSuite (an enterprise-driven Twitter client) is partnering with Twitter to sell advertising on Twitter.
A new not-for-profit launched by 3scale and API Evangelist aims to help speed up the process of developing APIs by encouraging the sharing of API code and descriptions. Launched at Defrag in Denver Colorado today, API Commons provides an open source-like, Creative Commons-modelled platform for developers to share and reuse API code. Co-Founder Steve Willmott spoke to ProgrammableWeb on the eve of the launch, while his fellow co-founder Kin Lane worked behind-the-scenes to upload some government open data API code examples.
