Flickcurl is a library for implementing the Flickr API in C. This library supports the entire Flickr API, including functions for browsing, searching, and uploading photos and videos. It comes with a program called flickrdf that turns a photo's metadata, tags, machine tags, and places into RDF triples descriptions.
We all know we can search web pages for text, but many services are looking to go above and beyond with features like location and face tagging. The big downside to these features is that they rely on end users have to manually enter in the appropriate data. Really, when was the last time you tagged all the people in the 200 photos you just uploaded to Facebook? To help automate the process of face recognition, face.com have just opened their API.
As announced on the Flickr Blog, Flickr has launched a new website for developers: Flickr Code. And besides announcing the new site they've both a) given interesting details on just how much API traffic they do each day (see below), and b) they announced they're open sourcing Flickr Uploadr, the cross-platform (Windows and OS X) desktop tool for uploading photos to Flickr.
