Single purpose API
Developers looking for trends in Twitter search are finding it more difficult now that the micro-blogging site has decreased the search history to four days. Previously going back weeks and months, the backlog has steadily decreased, now too short for some types of applications. At the same time, the newer streams have become the go-to API for former search use cases.
Google's voice-based assistant took on new powers this week and increased its compatibility with hardware platforms -- including Apple's iPhone. With Assistant's growing user base and expanded skillset, Google thinks it's time for developers to add Assistant to their own hardware.
While working with Big Data affords a lot of potential business value the complexity of building applications that manipulate all that information can be nothing short of daunting. Not only do most of the currently popular approaches require developers to master arcane interfaces such as MapReduce, the performance of the application tends to suffer under the weight of all the data that needs to be processed.
