GeonamesDotOrgDotNet is a library that allows users to access the GeoNames API's functions from their .NET applications. Currently, the only calls that the library supports are findNearby, findNearbyPlaceName, findNearByWeather, findNearbyWikipedia, get, hierarchy, children, gtopo30, and srtm3.
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has just announced a new geolocation API that will be available to developers fairly soon (Twitter API profile). The new API, which will likely be rolled out in Twitter clients before being available on the Twitter site, will allow users and developers to add latitude and longitude to tweets, thereby adding a valuable new layer of meta information to tweets.
The Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has released an API for access to National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data: NCVS API. NCVS data includes the frequency, characteristics and consequences of criminal victimization in the United States compiled on an annual basis. The API constitutes one of many steps the federal government plans to make in an attempt to open access to data.
This fall the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the publication of a book, Scenes From The City, and a series cultural events across the city. But in addition they have created an excellent web mashup: Scenes from the City Interactive Map.
