GeonamesDotOrgDotNet is a library that allows users to access the GeoNames API's functions from their .NET applications. Currently, the only calls that the library supports are findNearby, findNearbyPlaceName, findNearByWeather, findNearbyWikipedia, get, hierarchy, children, gtopo30, and srtm3.
Google has now made its closely-guarded Google Places API available to all developers, after nearly a year in closed beta. The API, first announced a year ago, returns business listings based on location. The search giant also added features that make the service useful for many types of local applications, in addition to simplifying the authentication process. With additional agreements, Google also allows for a healthy 100,000 queries, versus only 1,000 standard calls.
ForWhereIAm is a service that offers real-time, short-lived and localised information. Businesses use it as a place to post information they want to share with their customers, and users can visit the site to get information on deals and announcements that are relevant to their specific location. The ForWhereIAm API makes some of this data available to third-party developers.
Hoover's, the business information company, has released their own Hoover's API, aka "HAPI". This new API enables developers to create applications that utilize Hoover's database of 27 million companies and 34 million business executives (details at our Hoover's API profile). This is certainly useful data for a variety of enterprise applications.
