This is a Node.js wrapper for the GovTrack data API created by Mark Guerra. It contains guides to add bill, co-sponsorship, person, role, and voters features into applications. Initially, GovTrack was created by Joshua Tauberer with the goal to offer open access to parliamentary tracking at no cost.
The Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has released an API for access to National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data: NCVS API. NCVS data includes the frequency, characteristics and consequences of criminal victimization in the United States compiled on an annual basis. The API constitutes one of many steps the federal government plans to make in an attempt to open access to data.
NASA has released a new API (the EPIC API) which provides programmatic access to images pulled from the EPIC camera. EPIC sits upon the DSCOVR satellite and constantly provides images from the Earth's sunlit side. Developers can retrieve images from the camera along with associated metadata.
As we previously reported in December 2008, the Apps for America contest was created to encourage the development of open source applications that help constituents monitor and communicate with their members of Congress. Contest entries have to use at least one of the required APIs, which included the Sunlight Labs API , OpenSecrets.org API, FollowTheMoney.org API, and Capitol Words API.
