User authentication in apps is a pain, even if you've built an authentication system dozens of times. Forms, sessions, user tables, validation, password management, the list goes on in the seemingly never-ending to-do list for setting up a simple signup, login, and logout system for your app. OpenID company Janrain makes it easier, building on top of social networks.
Facebook is starting to approve additional "actions," verbs that let users go beyond Like. Developers can use Facebook timeline actions via the Facebook Graph API, but only if approved by the social network. Social shopping platform AddShoppers received approval for "want" and "own" and even has some Like-like buttons for those actions.
Favstar, a service that helps users "find great tweets and interesting people to follow", has announced that it will be shutting down next month because of changes Twitter is making to its APIs. Favstar's creator, Tim Haines, was left with no choice but to shut his service down due to API changes.
