Echo Nest's API already powers hundreds of music apps (e.g. MTV, Music Hunter, Pocket Hipster, etc.). With new enhancements to its API, Echo Nest looks to expand its reach beyond the music industry by "us[ing] music to drive non-music apps." Echo Nest added "Taste Profile Similarity" and an "affinity prediction" system to its existing platform. With the new features, Echo Nest hopes to connect music listeners to other listeners with similar tastes and predict behavior unrelated to musical preferences.
In May, PW reported on Gumroad's API that aimed to simplify online transactions. Indeed, the earlier release did move Gumroad towards its goal: "to democratize the ability to sell stuff online." However, Gumroad's latest offer, Platform API, simplifies the online buying process even further. The earlier API required buyers to register for a Gumroad account and required the use of links. The Platform API removes the need for links and buyer accounts. Instead, an entire transaction occurs on the merchant's site.
We've all been there. We found a great song we love, but don't know the lyrics. Instinctively, you hit the Google search and wade through a sea of misspelled, poorly translated, out-of-date, or poorly interpretted lyrics listings. Granted, some songs come tagged with the lyrics, which is helpful, but that's not going to help the rest of your massive music collection of songs you've been singing along to. It's frustrating and it's messy, something the MusixMatch API could change.
