Single purpose API
As the year comes to a close and holiday season looms, many of us look forward to taking a few days off to take a break from all of our hard work and relax. What better way to unwind this holiday season than by catching up on all of the movies you missed this year? You're in luck as we've gotten many great mashups this year that let you watch movies and trailers, browse your Netflix queue (you do still subscribe to Netflix right?) and share with your friends. Popular APIs for these mashups include Rotten Tomatoes, YouTube and Netflix. So without further ado, kick off your shoes, grab some popcorn and give these movie mashups a try.
Muvi is a social movie platform where users can access information on movies and celebrities, watch actual trailers and even interact with other users who may have similar movie interests. In addition, users can 'like' a video, see it's popularity, win points and badges and become a fan of a celebrity, engaging with them via tweets. The application supports four languages and provides information on over 100,000 movies and 1 million celebrities from both Hollywood and Bollywood.
Perhaps you're wondering which movie to see tonight? You could ask your friends on Twitter, or you could use Fflick to find out what they've already said. Fflick is a social movie review site, where the reviews come in bite-sized pieces from Twitter. The way its developers combine the reviews with other APIs and visuals shows how an excellent site can be built by bringing in content from elsewhere.
