If space-squads, emperors, dungeon-masters, planets, starships and space wars are your thing, you've probably heard of VGA Planets. It's a popular play by email, space strategy game created in 1991, and Planets Nu is the online browser based version launched in 2011. Planets Nu now provides the Planets Nu API, which is good news for developers who want to programmatically access the game's functionality.
Nielsen, the media-measurement juggernaut, announced that it is opening up its API for the first time. Nielsen made the announcement alongside many other groundbreaking launches and promotions as SXSW continues to heat up. With coverage in more than 100 countries, Nielsen maintains a treasure trove of data that developers have long been eager to get their hands on. With the API release, developers can begin to build applications directly off data that is generated and maintained by Nielsen.
Betable, the first platform that allows developers to legally create gambling games (without the developer procuring a license), has announced its second hackathon: Betable Hackathon 2.0. Building on the success of their its first hackathon, Betable expects everything from traditional casino games to unheard of games of chance and strategy to debut at the hackathon. With more and more states legalizing online gambling, the timing of this San Francisco event has been timed perfectly.
