Single purpose API
As announced earlier this year, Google officially retired the Hangouts API. As Hangouts is repositioned for enterprise use, the need for some of the social, consumer focused video features of the API are no longer a priority. Accordingly, the end of the API was first announced and now realized.
The Salsa Commons API is a REST and XML API that, as Salsa explains, "At it's simplest, using the Salsa API may consist of just a form placed on an external website ... At it's most complex, you could use a Ruby library to authenticate, pull down information on recent supporters and events, validate that data, change it, and submit it back to the node, while generating and displaying counts of petition signers -- all through the API."
Skydeck announced their new APIs, with the objective of enabling developers to create applications that integrate personal cell phone data into their daily online experience, including email and calendars, Facebook, MySpace, and Salesforce. "Very few developers have ever had the chance to work with cell phone data, so we're excited to see what people come up with."
