The New York Times have just announced their latest web service API: TimesPeople. With this new API, the newspaper of record is giving developers access to their own Times-centric social network. This community feature, launched last spring, lets readers connect via their interest in the paper's content. The TimesPeople API now provides access to TimesPeople data for any user, including their profile, activities, news feed and social network (our TimesPeople profile).
Hipmob is an easy-to-use mobile chat client that works to connect customers with customer service and support, in real time. It's a simple process of integrating the Hipmob library into the Android or iPhone app, then logging in to any Jabber or XMPP enabled IM client.
Popular iPhone photo-sharing app Instagram is a prime candidate for an API, which is probably why it already has one. Though documentation refers to it as an "unofficial" Instagram API, the fact that it uses the company's own servers makes it seem pretty official. Instagram has not launched the API, nor is an API linked from its home page. Yet, it has a mobile app and right column Twitter integration, both of which likely consume the API.
