Having a trusted site for event information and registration is crucial to successful events and happy participants. The same way event goers rely on trusted ticket brokers to purchase their tickets from. MotorsportReg.com is that trusted identity for motorsport participants to register and list events in their respective categories. These categories include autocross, driving schools, HPDE, club races, test days and rallies organized by groups like the SCCA, BMW CCA, PCA, Audi Club, Miller Motorsports Park and Circuit of the Americas. In fact, the site currently has 350 plus registered organizations that periodically list upcoming events. Developers can leverage the event data through the MotorsportReg.com API. This week we will be taking a look at the MotorsportReg.com API and what recent mashups have been created leveraging MotorsportReg.com.
The fusion of technology and journalism continues apace. On a Manhattan rooftop next month, an emerging breed of journo-geeks will enjoy a coming-out party of sorts, in the form of a Hacks/Hackers mixer at Gawker's NoLIta headquarters. Across the Atlantic, meanwhile, there's less glitz but growing interest in the marriage of news and technology, as evidenced by the European Journalism Centre's standing-room-only roundtable on data-driven journalism last week in Amsterdam. (I attended and spoke about the creation of the Data Desk at my alma mater, the Los Angeles Times.)
Sometimes it takes a little human intervention to make semantic applications easier to build. The Guardian newspaper has augmented its Open Platform API with unique identifiers for bands and books. In turn, the company has simplified the process of creating a mashup that uses multiple sources to focus on a single work, which may help its content spread farther.
