Of the many APIs we published this week, eleven were highlighted on the blog by our team of writers. In this post, we’ll shine a spotlight on those eleven, which include the LairOut API. LairOut, in a nutshell, is a web-based event location directory that provides users with information on events happening around their location. All users have to do is enter in a location and date and the site will generate events taking place around that location at or near that date. The API simply makes this functionality available to developers via API calls.
UMap, provided by AFComponents, is a Flash ActionScript mapping API that allows developers to create custom map mashups with interactive data layers. Umap includes a variety of features including support for Flash/Flex versions, custom map tiles integration, KML support, and other capabilities (see our UMap API Profile for more).
Given just how innovative the new Obama administration is in terms of using technology to bring US politics into the 21st century, it's notable that it's the Republicans who are the first US party to launch a real open web API.
