Recently launched, Everlapse, is a free iOS app for sharing images and slideshows. Communicating with images is already a winning formula in the world of social networking, but Everlapse makes it a little more interesting by providing something that is a bit more stimulating than just static photos, but not quite as complicated as videos. In a nutshell, it allows users to create and contribute to clips which are made up of various photos and displayed as a slideshow. By providing the Everlapse API, the company also makes it possible for developers to integrate this functionality with other applications.
Active development on Google Wave, a collaboration tool that used features of email, chat and document sharing, has been shut down. Google announced that the chief reason for discontinuing Wave was the low user adoption. The platform will live on within other Google projects, as well as the many portions of Wave that have been open sourced.
Filtering, curation, aggregation and relevance have long been touted as the next important steps for social media. In actual fact we've had curation services in the form of Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Delicious and many more for a long time. However, the questions "How do I find the blog post, tweet, facebook update, photo or check-in that is most relevant to me?" and "How do I know I've not missed a really important piece of news?" are still asked daily. So, there still isn't a definite answer - or a definitive service. Cadmus started off as a "real-time filtering service" for a product called ViewPoint, but has grown into a self-standing application and the Cadmus API can help users and developers answer these questions.
