In less than sixty days since the private beta release of its API, Portland-based Shizzow has now released its API (our Shizzow API Profile) to the public. If you are not familiar with Shizzow, it is a location-based social service that a small, yet dedicated, team of techies built with the goal of helping you build quality relationships through face-to-face interaction. Sharing some similarity with Yahoo!'s Fire Eagle and other location based services, Shizzow functions as a geo-location service that allows users to send "shouts" out of their location, which are subsequently passed on to friends through updates in several mediums. Originally limited for use by Portlanders, Shizzow recently went public in conjunction with the public release of their API.
Perhaps your most important online network of business contacts is now programmable. LinkedIn launched its API (our LinkedIn API profile), which allows developers to access a user's connections and anyone's profile data, in addition to several other features. Though some are saying "finally," it's clearly not too late for LinkedIn, who aims to be the professional networking platform.
Social networks have erupted in popularity in the last 15 years; companies like Myspace and LinkedIn soon became household names. Today, facebook has over 800 million active users and counting. It quickly became clear that social networks could be used for more than connecting with friends; they could connect employees, community groups, and the unemployed with potential employers. Today, companies like GROU.PS, allow for easy creation of personalized networks that allow anyone to create their own social sites. With the GROU.PS API information from GROU.PS sites can easily be integrated into existing platforms.
