Youï¿½re seeing live calls as OnSIP customers pick up the phone. When an OnSIP customer makes a call, a pin drops. When an OnSIP customer receives a call, a pin drops.
This works because OnSIP is - at its core - a communications platform built on software. We created a live UDP stream of OnSIP customer call data with IP addresses of each end point (phone). We used IP2Location to get the lat/long for each IP address, and then plotted these points via the Google Map API.
Google has just announced a nice addition to the Google Gears Geolocation API: the ability to use WiFi on laptops to locate users to within 200m accuracy in major desktop browsers in hundreds of cities around the world. We originally covered the GeoLocation API back in August, when Google first announced the release of the API for use in mobile devices to get a more precise estimate of a user's location.
Popular "hyperlocal" news and information service Outside.in recently released an API (our Outside.in API Profile) that provides developers with a way to access up-to-the-minute, location-based news. Based on its “news around you” feature, Radar, the API provides access to various types of information, including the latest news stories, blog posts, Twitter tweets and more located within 1,000 feet of a specific location.
