A year ago Twitter was just a microblogging platform. Sure, it was a popular one, but it wasn't until the announcement of its geotagging API that it took its first step toward being a location platform. Since then, it has expanded its offering to include the four geo APIs I've categorized below.
As announced on the Flickr Blog, Flickr has launched a new website for developers: Flickr Code. And besides announcing the new site they've both a) given interesting details on just how much API traffic they do each day (see below), and b) they announced they're open sourcing Flickr Uploadr, the cross-platform (Windows and OS X) desktop tool for uploading photos to Flickr.
Recently, blogging service Posterous thought it would try and help ease the burden of moving from other places on the web to its blogging platform by developing a bunch of migration tools. All of these tools were built on other services' open APIs and designed to go in, grab your content, and republish it through Posterous maintaining as much metadata as possible. Things were fine until photo-hosting service Twitpic caught wind and cut of Posterous' API access.
