Glympse, a service that allows GPS-enabled mobile phone users to temporarily share their location in real-time, has announced the availability of the Glympse platform allowing developers the ability to integrate real-time, temporary location sharing into third-party web and mobile applications. Glympse has also made available SDKs for iOS and Android as well as REST based APIs for use in websites and web based applications.
A look at some of the APIs, SDKs and tools available from six leading social networking companies, as well as examples of apps that are leveraging the power of these platforms.
Last month mobile-to-mobile communications company Bump decided to share its technology, which allows for data transfer between two iPhone or Android phones. For example, its flagship iPhone app swaps contact info and photos when two phones "bump" (as in "fist bump") near each other. Bump introduced an API, but to little fanfare.
