BlockAvenue, location-based analytics company, has announced the release of its first BlockAvenue API. The API gives developers access to BlockAvenue's data (e.g. BlockScores, block reviews, neighborhood reviews, counts, etc.). BlockAvenue provides geolocation data on most neighborhoods across the US, often down to the block level. Its database grows everyday and BlockAvenue expects the API to push BlockAvenue towards its ultimate goal.
With navigation units already seen on dashboards worldwide, TomTom hopes to expand its influence to mobile apps and web browsers. The company launched the TomTom Maps Toolkit API and other services it hopes will encourage innovation along the spectrum of independent developers to enterprise customers. Some of its new platform will compete directly with Google and Microsoft, among many other mapping APIs.
Last month Yahoo! announced BOSS, its Build Your Own Search Service, which "allows developers and companies to create and launch web-scale search products by utilizing the same infrastructure and technology that powers Yahoo! Search." The REST API allows developers to get results in XML or JSON format for web, news, and image search queries. Recently the official Yahoo! Search Blog showcased a handful of the best mashups that third-party developers created in BOSS's first month of operation.
