Mashups using the same API (2663)
Sometimes we forget what the real purpose of all this fancy technology is. And what is that? To make our real lives easier. Mashups often help with that, allowing us to do such simple things as find a good beer, our favorite music artists, where the streetcars are, or where a park is.
A trend is starting to emerge: Advanced technologies are being made available first as cloud services that organizations can invoke easily via an API, rather than having to figure out how to deploy and master themselves. The latest example of that trend is a cloud service from AlchemyAPI that takes advantage of machine learning and computer vision technologies to allow publishers and providers of ad networks to more easily monetize content.
If Google wants to grow the user base for its social networking platform Google+ by targeting the business segment, an API might be just the thing. To that end, Google recently brought its Google+ Domains API out of beta. Now developers everywhere can use the API to integrate Google+ functions and services into their existing business tools.
